Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch
Recorded in February 1964, 'Out to Lunch' is Eric Dolphy’s final studio recording as a leader, and clearly establishes the enormity of the tragic loss by this incredible reedman/composer’s death at 36, only four months later.
Accompanied by a stellar lineup of Freddie Hubbard, Bobby Hutcherson, Richard Davis and Tony Williams, this date finds Eric in the middle of the ‘60s avant-garde, Blue Note style, meaning structured, swinging music played by musicians of sterling ability.
With five uniquely wonderful originals, and marked by his astounding solos, 'Out To Lunch' proves that Dolphy was a phenomenal artist who left us well before his peak.
