Horace Silver - Song for My Father
Long before it became popular, Horace Silver incorporated diverse musical influences into his unique style. Calling on Caribbean, Brazilian, Middle Eastern and Indian traditions, his 1964 classic 'Song For My Father' is his most popular and the best among the many fine recordings he made during his long stint with Blue Note in the ‘50s and ‘60s.
Featuring the great tenorman Joe Henderson at his most creative and explosive and the excellent trumpeter Carmel Jones, the group rips through three Silver originals and Joe’s burner, 'The Kicker.'
Including four bonus cuts by Silver’s earlier quintet featuring Blue Mitchell and Junior Cook, 'Song For My Father' is a must-have.
