Recorded during John Coltrane’s legendary stay with Thelonious Monk, and shortly before his second stint with Miles Davis, 'Blue Train' was the first real sign of the profound impact the incredible saxophonist would have on the future of Jazz.
Deep in the emerging hard bop style and with some of its most formidable players like trumpeter Lee Morgan, trombonist Curtis Fuller, pianist Kenny Drew and fellow Davis bandmates Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones, "Blue Train" is an excellent representation of Coltrane’s emerging brilliance as saxophonist and composer.
With everyone in top form, and a title cut that hints at the territory that would be explored on Miles’ immortal 'Kind of Blue,' 'Blue Train' is a total delight.
