Global Music Network Presents Two Nights of Historic Jazz from New York City’s Famed Jazz Mecca, Birdland
San Diego, CA (December 9, 1999) – Global Music Network (www.gmn.com), the Internet’s premier site for complete live performance of classical music, opera, and jazz, will webcast two unique jazz performances this month live from New York’s Birdland, “The Jazz Corner of the World.” On Wednesday, December 15th, GMN will present the legendary Dave Brubeck Quartet, and on Saturday, December 18th, “The Tenor Summit”, as three of the world’s top saxophonists, Joe Lovano, Michael Brecker, and Dave Liebman take to the stage. GMN.com will provide complete live audio and video streaming of both sets each night, at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. EST.
“Live broadcasts of jazz events are a rarity on the Net, and we’re happy to give the global jazz audience the opportunity to share in the celebration of Birdland’s 50th anniversary. Over the course of a week, we’re giving jazz fans around the world the chance to see a true jazz legend perform and watch as three of the finest saxophone players in jazz today share the stage,” said GMN.com’s Director of Jazz Programming, Bret Primack. In addition to participating in two historic shows, jazz aficionados will have the opportunity to purchase CDs available through GMN.com’s newly unveiled jazz shop. Just in time for the holidays, the most recent addition to the network contains one of the largest selections of jazz music anywhere on the Internet. The GMN Shop offers many selections where a complete track or selection can be listened to prior to purchase.
These engagements mark the beginning of the “GMN Live Series from Birdland,” as the Global Music Network will showcase top jazz from both the legends of today and the stars of tomorrow live from the venue twice a month. Birdland, which has played host to jazz legends such as Charlie Parker and Miles Davis, is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary. Next month, GMN will also present a live cybercast from the IAJE Conference in New Orleans, featuring Joshua Redman, and the legendary Count Basie Orchestra.
With these two events, GMN.com will once again bring the best in Internet audio and video technology to its audience, ensuring visitors of the highest quality audio and visual presentation available online. Offering an array of choices to those who log on, including Real Player and Windows Media Player, the web site continues to support all the popular standards of technology available today.
